If your child is a fluent English speaker, then I say he can go to G11. Otherwise, it is better to repeat a year and go to G10. Many top schools will not take students from China for G11 if their English is not good as it will affect their studies.

Yes, absolutely! The admissions is on a rolling basis. No, there is no deadline for application. When it's full then they will not take any more students. Most students will apply before December for the next summer.
If you are going to be there late, you should write to Ethan Shapiro, who is the Director of Summer School, to ask him.

Yes the scores are fine, can be a little higher. Although many of the schools look at the percentile rather than the raw score.

But only the scores will not get you into a good boarding school. They also need to look at grades, teacher recommendations, extracurricular activities, essays and interview.

Stevenson is a good school. My husband went there and both my kids went there for summer school. My daughter loved it so much she went back for 3 years!

Cate is one of the best schools in California, although Stevenson is not that far behind. They are both stronger than Webb.

You can also take a look at Thacher, which is another good Californian school.

First of all, if your son likes to make friends, then he should applying for a boarding school and not a day school. He will have a lot more opportunities to make friends if he lives at school.

You should at least have TOEFL if not the SSAT. But you should also talk to the schools first to see if they are interested in your son even though he hasn't done both tests.

I have a few top to good schools who have asked me to look for students for them. However I cannot disclose their names. But their admission rates to ivy leagues and top boarding schools are good.

What are the schools that your child applied and was rejected. Perhaps it is a combination of your child's TOEFL, SSAT and Vericant results that are not satisfactory. There are schools that offer programs for students from China with specialized ESL programs that you can still consider.

It is good to have academic excellence and good extra-curricular activities as ingredients to apply to U.S. schools. However, everything is relative and what you think is good may be average in U.S. standards. The most important thing is that your child's English standard is excellent because English is the medium of communication and for learning, especially in top 10 boarding schools. There are many fun summer activities and sports you child can participate. There are also NGO volunteer programs either in the U.S. or overseas. I think there is a reason why Virginia Episcopal declined your daughter's application after the Vericant interview. The interview gives prospective schools a good idea the student's English ability and if they deem it to be lacking, it will definitely affect how well the student will perform academically after they are admitted. Regardless of which schools your daughter will apply to and be admitted, it will be wise to have your daughter devote more time to improve her English before she goes abroad otherwise she will struggle and perhaps not do as well as you or she would expect.

I think it's important for your child to improve on the English standard because a 70 in TOEFL is borderline for admissions to good schools. Having said that, there are quite a few good schools, perhaps not well known who offers very good academic and ESL programs. I presume you are a good student and therefore aiming to apply to top U.S. schools. In general you'll need to score over 100 in TOEFL and achieve at least 90 percentile in SSAT. Usually the grades for the past couple of years would be sufficient. If your child is applying as a 9th grader to 9th grade next Fall, why won't your child be attending school until he or she goes abroad? I think the IB curriculum is scaring the general public of the level of difficulty. It is a diversified curriculum aimed at giving the students a broad range of knowledge in different subjects. IB, which is offered in less than 1,000 schools, may not be any more difficult than any other 14,000 private and public high school curriculum which doesn't subscribe to the IB system. The U.S. colleges don't necessarily compare IB scores with A level grades as they do in England. The grades which the students received in their high schools, i.e. A or B or C are the determining factor in admissions and not some aggregate scores. I would not prejudiced against any schools which offer IB and not apply as long as the school offers first class education and has a good reputation.

I do believe that boarding schools offer much more learning experiences to Chinese students who often have language challenges. The dormitory and immersed school environment accelerates the learning curve and allows your child to develop friendship which is difficult if your child remains a day student. Depending on which schools your child is applying to, it may not be necessary to provide too many years' worth of school grades especially considering the child is only in grade 7, 8 or 9 where the grades before are quite insignificant. The recommendations should be from current teachers although past teachers from the same school can also provide invaluable comments. In addition to the core subjects, i.e.. English and Math, it is also important and sometime requested that teachers for extra curricular, i.e. music, art, sports should also submit their recommendations. Most of the students from China are good students with decent grades and the most common reason why a student wants to repeat a grade is because of poor English skills which impedes the progression. Depending on the student's academic records, it may not necessarily mean it will be easier to repeat a grade rather than to ascend a grade. If your child's academic background is solid, I will not agree it's better to try 8 to 8 and if not successful, try 9 to 9. On the contrary, your child should try to ascend a grade and if somehow the result is not as you expected, i.e. rejection or waitlist, then you try to repeat the grade.

Repeating the grade obviously may result in negative psychological effects on your child (as no one likes to repeat a grade) but if your child is young for his age relative to the same class, it may not be a bad decision to repeat especially if your child needs the additional year to improve English.

Percentile is a relative measurement against the group of people who participate in the same test. Assume you are the only one who scored full marks in SSAT, then everyone else are below you in the 99% of the population which gives you the 99 percentile ranking. However, if I also scored full marks in the same test, then you and I are the top and we are both at 99 percentile. On the contrary, even if I tested well and got 90% of the questions correct, but unfortunately in that particular SSAT test, EVERYONE scored higher than me, then I am at 0 percentile! It is difficult to say how many students or Chinese students scores 99 percentile in each test or year because it all depends on how many achieve the same scores.

There are quite a few good boarding schools in California other than the ones you mentioned. Virginia also has good schools, as well as East Coast in the Massachusetts and New Hampshire area. 我是一名高二的学生，目前已脱产，打算2016年春季入学，申请十年级下，这两天要定好准备申请的学校。在一年前没确定去美国时，学了两期雅思，今年二月考了6.5。我的托福只学了一个月，十月份考90分，ssat一周后考，应该2000 没问题。在校成绩一直比较优异，近三年的成绩里大致算了一下，gpa应该在91 。口语跟本地人相差无几，沟通能力一般偏上。有音乐爱好，唱歌好，钢琴也有才艺，但是都没有参加过大型比赛。在校参加活动活跃，自己组建乐队。我知道自己的成绩不算拔尖的，春季名额也很少，所以目前有点选校迷茫，十一月份可能会去校园面试，但是我希望能申请到一般甚至偏上的学校，前提是位置一定要好，有利于我以后转校(如果以后需要转校)。我的问题是： 1.我想去宾夕法尼亚州或者马萨诸塞州，附近的州也可以考虑，请推荐学校？ 2.有人给我推荐了马里兰州的The Key School，我根本查不到它，想问一下这所学校如何？

请问大家一个关于申请时机的问题。因为决定转学较晚，春节后才开始与中介联系，三月初才去考的托福，但是准备时间短而且没考好，成绩只有67。去年学校统考的psat141。现在中介这边准备开始选校，签约前说好是想入读寄宿高中，签约后中介想方设法推荐走读高中，而且基本都是与某机构签约的合作校，现在还一直催促我确定选校名单。我想请问，美高是大部分都可以直接申请，还是都要靠某个机构？如果我今年不转学（因为时间太晚而且托福分数不够），准备一整年（10年级交完学费不太可能春季入读），然后10申11，这样的方案和现在转学比起来哪一个会好一些？（如果实在要在现在这个学校多待一年也是可以的。）谢谢各位的帮助！

我T99, SSAT70%。收到了这两所的offer。westover面试官说两百份申请只收两三个人，学术也超级棒。所以被录取我也挺激动的。但是森林女中提前录取了我，而且写了一封很长的信，是关于我申请文章的感受，读着也很心动。我很喜欢GFS的校园而且我很喜欢体育，所以犹豫不决。请各位给建议，谢谢！
