You can contact Vericant directly to set up interviews as a lot of schools accept their service. Please note not all schools use Vericant so you should find out the interview arrangements of the schools your child is planning to apply to.

Highschools generally DO NOT disclose the number of students they accept by nationality, let alone the top ten boarding schools as they guard their admission numbers closely. Generally the various schools will consider accepting no more than 2 or 3 students from China each year but you should not consider that as the rule.

While the test results and grades of your child are not too favorable, there may be schools suitable for him depending on his other qualifications such as sports, extra curricular activities, particular talents in specific areas, etc. The most important area for him to improve is English so regardless of what schools he applies to, he needs to devote more time on that to have any chance of acceptance.

Unless there is a particular reason why you want your child to attend a day school, it would be beneficial to enroll him or her in a boarding school environment to allow acclimatization and maximize language and social integration.

There are many very good highschools in the East Coast around New York and Boston areas. You can identify the areas which you would like your child to attend school and research the respective schools within those areas. Most schools would welcome campus visits and you can arrange with the admissions office.

All the schools you have identified are very good schools which generally expect their applicants to score at least 100 on TOFEL and high 2200 in SSAT. However, the test scores are considered in addition to your child's academic grades and other extra curricular activities. Different schools have interest for students with different background and it is good your child is strong in mathematics. You may want to research the school's academic environment to see if they are beneficial for your child.

2014-10-18 10:20:09
TOFEL score of 100 or higher is sort of a benchmark to apply to higher quality highschools. Of course SSAT scores are equally important in addition to your child's school grades and other academic achievements. Interview by vericant are required by many schools
You may be able to schedule individual interviews in person and/or by skype with the schools. Taking more than one SSAT and as early as possible will generally improve your child's results so taking it in November will give you a gauge of how well your child can score. If results are not satisfactory, then retaking in December and January is recommended.

2014-10-18 10:19:10
Repeating the grade may not be a bad idea especially if your child's English standard needs improvement. Most higher quality U.S. high schools would like to see applicants with at least 100 (should be 100 ) points on their TOFEL and 2200 on SSAT. It is good that your child has interest and competency in visual arts and computer science which is quite common among U.S. students nowadays and should not be interpreted as special skills. U.S. high schools have extensive computing program course for their students eventual entrance to college. You should research and identify the high schools who matriculate their students to colleges that specialize in computing.

Minimum score for PA is 100. But since many of the students have high TOEFL scores, it would be better if it is 110 .

AP is important if the schools have AP. Some schools like PEA do not have AP courses. When that is the case, it is important that the student take honors courses in the school. The schools don't only look at your TOEFL and SSAT scores. They also will look at your grades, teacher recommendations, extracurricular activities, interview, etc.
2014-05-03 09:53:11
Many of them do. You should check the requirements of each school on their website. As for the scores, your percentile should be similar to students who took the SSAT for the schools you are applying to.
2014-05-03 09:50:23
You can look at ranking, but you shouldn't base your choice of school on that. Most important is the fit for you so you will do well.
2014-05-03 09:48:01

Should not be problem, except if you stay there for more than 90 days a year then you are subjected to US tax.
2014-03-17 18:13:25
I personally like Stony Brook as that is in New York, and you have access to Manhattan. Chicago is a bit cold for me.
2014-03-17 18:07:05
Rather than transferring to a day school, have you considered transferring to a better boarding school?
2014-03-17 18:05:48
Yes
2014-03-17 18:04:17
Applying from China, lots of competition. Some China schools are more well known by the colleges and so it would be better. If the colleges are not familiar with the school where the student is applying from, then there will be a disadvantage.
2014-03-17 18:03:48
Better but each school is different
2014-03-17 18:00:52
yes there are juniors high schools in the states
absolutely!

Stevenson School, on Pebble Beach, one of the most famous golf course in the US. My husband went there and he loved it. Students get to take lessons either there or at Cypress Point or Spyglass.
Another choice would be Bollettieri in Florida.
2014-03-17 17:49:20
You should go to a school that has good college matriculation record, and also one that you think your son will do well in, as in the school fits his character.
2014-03-17 17:43:14
In the US, they have a holistic application approach. Not only do they look at the grades, teacher recommendation, test scores, and extracurricular activities, they also pay attention to the character of the student from the interviews. Your child will probably also need some sports. May not be easy to get into a college from China as too many students are applying.
2014-03-17 17:41:49
Because many more applicants from China this year.
2014-03-17 17:38:21
Because many more applicants from China this year.

1) Do not recommend transferring to another school for G12. No records of performance as he needs to apply to college in Nov/Jan of senior year.
2) Yes, if he can get in.
3) Possible.
4) Yes, possible, but he needs ti improve English.

There are many good day schools in the US, depends on what location you are looking at.
2014-03-17 17:35:09
You should take ESL in the summer (maybe a the school that she got into) so your son will not have to spend too much time on ESL in September.
2014-03-17 17:31:08
1) Yes you should apply to a school with ESL since the top schools without ESL want your child to have TOEFL of around 90-100.
2) It depends on what your child likes. For a smaller school, he may get more personal attention. For a big school like PA or PEA, they already expect you to be independent and can manage things on his own.
3) Not necessarily. Milton, for example, goes from K-12.
4) None of the better schools are taking a lot of Chinese students now. You should have your son go to a school with diversity, meaning international students.
5) Personally, I advise my students to apply to boarding schools, not day schools, because of friends, activities in the evenings and weekends, etc. I think if you want someone to look for a host family, you should look at the contract carefully. Every company is different.
2014-03-05 10:26:09
I strongly suggest that your daughter goes this year. It is easier to be accepted into a better school if the student is already going to school in the US. This is because she has already proved that she can deal with boarding school life and is doing well there. Remember she still needs to take the TOEFL and SSAT again.
2014-02-26 11:57:58
Even if your son is going to school in the US, if he has only been there for a short time, then he has to take the TOEFL. He must take SSAT if he wants to get into some of the best boarding schools. The best person for training SSAT I know of is Alex Zhao at Zumeng in Guangzhou/Shenzhen. Let me know if you need his contact information.
2014-02-23 18:27:55
That depends on which school you have applied to. You should ask the school first before you don't go to school. But most of the top schools will want you to complete this year.
2014-02-20 09:59:15
School motto is usually on the home page of the school's website. School song is more difficult to find. You'll have to go into each school to search, and some may not have it on the sites, but you can write to each school's music department to get that.
2014-02-14 13:48:34
I personally like Stony Brook better. But it depends on student who is applying and the fit for the school.
2014-02-14 13:38:00
Kent, NMH, Governors, Brooks and Berkshire. BUT, do not go by this ranking alone. Different people have different opinions.
Whether your child will get in depends on grades, extracurricular activities, essays, recommendations and interview.
2014-02-14 12:34:48
This depends on what school your child is at. For example, at PEA, there are no AP courses, but after taking the designated honors courses, the student will be able to take the AP AB and/or BC exams, depending on the level of the courses. You need to find out whether your child will be able to take the AP exam if he takes the honors course in his/her school. Regardless, your child should take the AP exams if he/she can do it.
2014-02-14 12:24:35
If you are talking about the SSAT and TOEFL, if you have 2 sets of scores that you want the schools to see, then you have to send twice (separately) as the schools will only see the set that you sent.
The schools look at both the percentile and raw scores.
However, if let's say the first time in the SSAT, you have a higher reading score, and you have a higher verbal score the 2nd time, then you should send both sets of scores in.
2014-02-13 12:25:46
I prefer boarding school for my students so I would recommend Gould Academy. Also one of my colleagues used to go there and she speaks very highly of the school.
2014-02-11 15:24:14
For all the top schools, the deadline is past. You can only apply to schools with rolling admissions if you plan to leave this September. Otherwise you have to apply for next fall.

Don't only look at these schools. Perhaps you might also want to look at ones that are a little better? But this also depends on the SSAT and TOEFL scores when your son takes them. You should take at least one in the next couple of month so you know what school you look at. Also some schools do not need SSAT, so you should check when you apply.
2014-02-07 14:32:01
You should find out more about the school before the interview so you know what the school has that you like.
2014-02-07 14:25:49
Some of these schools have a minimum TOEFL score. You should check with each school.
2014-02-07 14:22:25
Apart from finding school, you can also compare using this website using comparison:
http://boarding-schools.findthebest.com/d/c/Secondary
2014-02-07 14:18:45
You have 2 choices: Be the top student in your current school OR transfer to a better school and do well there. Both will get you into a good college.

But if you want to transfer, it's already too late for the top schools, unless you apply to ones with rolling admission. For the top schools, you can apply at the end of this year for G11.
2014-02-07 14:16:49
If there is a university that you would like to go to, take the summer course there. If you do really, really well in the course, it will be a positive for your application process.
2014-02-07 14:12:37
The accept rates for students applying to colleges from China are not high. To apply to G11 is also difficult for the top schools since 1) there's limited spaces and 2) the English standard come very much into play.
2014-02-07 14:10:31
The fit of the student to each school is most important. Some schools are better for certain students than other schools. You need to do research on the schools to find out more. The 3 schools that you mentioned are fine. But it also depends on the grades, scores, extracurricular, essays and recommendations, whether your son will get in or not. Maine is very nice and quiet, but still close to Boston. There's lots of lobster to eat there!
2014-02-07 14:07:21
If you are at a not so good school and you are the top student, then you have a chance to get into a good college. If you are at a not so good school and you are not doing well, then your chances are not so good to get into a good college. If you are at one of the top schools, and if you around the top 30%, you have a good chance.
2014-02-07 14:00:35
Yes, you should go back for revisit day. If you cannot make it on revisit day, then you arrange with the school for another time to visit. This has to be done within the month. However, this depends on the school.
2014-02-07 13:58:06
Yes, both are important, depending on which schools you are applying to. For many top schools, you will need a minimum TOEFL score of 100. SSAT and TOEFL are different and schools use the 2 tests to look at different aspects of you.
2014-02-07 13:55:46
Yes, if your application is not complete then the folder will not go to the admission committee for review. You should talk to the counselor in the school to see if he/she can talk to the teacher.
2014-02-07 13:53:01
Yes you can find out the news. With both my children, they were also notified by email.

Every school is different. Normally revisit day is during the month after March 10, but some schools also welcome accepted students anytime during that month. You should try and call in to make an appointment when you hear the good news.

It's better sometimes to go on revisit day since you will be able to sit in the classes, whereas other times, you may or may not.
2014-02-07 13:51:10
Yes, you MUST have SSAT send the scores directly to the schools.
Don't send scores in until you take taken more than one SSAT.
Yes there is a fee to send the scores to the school if you go over the number.
2013-11-10 16:20:39
If your child is a fluent English speaker, then I say he can go to G11. Otherwise, it is better to repeat a year and go to G10. Many top schools will not take students from China for G11 if their English is not good as it will affect their studies.
2013-11-10 16:17:08
Oh, one more thing, if you decide to apply to G11, many schools need the PSAT or the SAT
2013-11-10 16:16:50
No change. In case the student wants to guess, try to eliminate as many answers a possible before guessing.
2013-11-10 16:12:40
no change
2013-11-10 16:11:43
For information sessions, you should always go if the school is your top choice. That way the school will, 1) know that you were there and that you are interested in the school, 2) you have something to talk about in the interview and 3) you get to shake hands with the presenter, although he/she may not remember you (so think of something interesting to say).
2013-11-10 16:10:22
Apply as soon as you can. Deadline is around January 15, 2014 so you still have time. Since you have been there for 2 years, your English should be better so you might get into a better school.
2013-11-10 16:06:44
You should buy clothes, bed sheets (twin long), down comforter and towels in the States. They are cheap there. Also another reason is that I am sure your daughter wants to buy clothes so she will look like other students.
Salem is more south and so it is not as cold as the north east. When you get to the school, you take a look at what the students have, especially American students, since they are more familiar with the typoe of clothing your daughter will need when she is there.
2013-11-10 16:02:14
Normally, how I would do it would be to choose as many Reach (NOT Double Reach) schools that you are able to finish in time for the application. Then you have 2-3 possibles, then 2-3 likely, and 2-3 safeties.
Each student is different, so you should think about how much time you need to do the applications. If you can finish more, then you apply to more schools.
2013-11-10 15:57:13
You can use these people:

I helped UPenn and Exeter teachers get visas to China using this website. They are good.
2013-11-10 15:26:43
Each school is different in the way they teach math. For example, there are schools that teaches by the topic. However, PEA, mixes the topics together so you learn different topics at the same time.
2013-11-10 15:22:04
These schools may be difficult. They say they want TOEFL of 100, but there could be exceptions.

No this is not true. All the top schools will not start to look at the applications until the deadline of the applications, which is generally around the middle to the end of January. You should spend more time to make sure that your application is good. It doesn't make a different with respect to acceptance if you mail it in early. However, if you are late, then you may get rejected or waitlisted.

This depends on the other criteria, such as grades, SSAT scores, teacher recommendations, extracurricular activities. This is the comparison:

Yes, that is a possibility, such as if you are competing in the Olympics, where you are representing your country, and not your school. But normally that should not be the case.

Absolutely you have to pay attention! Many of the schools are starting to use this 3rd party interviewing company. When I was at Miss Porter's a couple of weeks ago, they told me that ALL students applying from China will need to have an interview with this company, no matter whether the student has talked to the school or not. Please reply to them as soon as possible.

No you do not need TOEFL if you are performing well in English at school. Sometimes, it is an advantage for you to take it, depending on the situation, and especially if the English grade is not that good. This will also depend on the college you are applying to and whether they have such requirements.

When your child applies to college, the schools want to see how may honors courses the student is taking and how well the student does in the course. The more honors courses, the better it is. Of course it would mean a lot more if your child is getting an A in the course. This information is told to me by someone from Penn admissions.

Many of the top schools will not take students from China for G11, unless the child is fluent in English, like a native speaker. Same with applying to G9 or G10, the top schools will want to see very good grades and high PSAT scores.
There is a list of top schools

Suggest you apply to G10, so he can improve his English and academics before he applies to college. His school choices will depend on his grades and to what extend his involvement is in the sports that he does. Also his teacher recommendation will make a difference too.

Depending on your grades and whether you need ESL.
You can look at programs from PEA, PA, Choate, etc.
You should look at the finding school website.
