CAIS is the nation's preeminent and oldest school offering Chinese-English dual-language immersion education. Founded in 1981, CAIS is a Pre-K to 8th grade independent school in San Francisco, California that provides a bilingual and multicultural learning experience for students of all backgrounds. Our mission at the Chinese American International School is to educate students for academic excellence, moral character and international perspective through immersion in American and Chinese culture and language. The CAIS program prepares students to be bilingual, biliterate and bicultural when they graduate; demonstrate intellectual curiosity that inspires a lifelong love of learning; act with civility and compassion, and respect diverse beliefs and cultures; contribute to society, family, and peers out of a sincere desire to be of service; exhibit diligence, resiliency, integrity and self respect; and be committed to preserving the global environment and improving the human condition.
