Rio Hondo Prep seeks to provide a college preparatory education for those students who might otherwise be lost in the crowd. We believe that students of average academic abilities can succeed and indeed excel at the college level and in the vocations that follow if they are given personal attention and encouragement. We believe that the average student needs an approach to education where stimulus is provided to each student in an array of areas. Rio Hondo Prep seeks to provide an atmosphere where the average student can thrive without being sidetracked by disruptive influences. We seek to give students their say by adhering to the democratic process. We believe that the best discipline is self-discipline and we hold high moral standards based on the Judeo-Christian ethic.

Rise Institute is a non-public school that specializes in working with at-risk children who have been identified in need of psycho-educational therapeutic intervention. Our individualized and intense academic setting provides a safe, structured learning environment. Our students need the attention we provide through small classes and access to one-on-one instruction. Our program provides a unique curriculum created around the Re-Education format, which stresses the importance of individualized and developmentally-based activities. This model also addresses our students need to have hands-on experiences in woodwork, ceramics, dance, music, movement and role-play. To further compliment this philosophy, we have a vocational training site in Sonoma where students participate in learning construction skills and other job-related activities. This venue also gives our students an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Sonoma county through full, structured outdoor activities which serve to develop appropriate social interaction, teamwork and communication skills.

Since 1991 River Valley School has been providing a quality private independent study program for a wide variety of students in grades 7-12. The use of the exclusive "Assignment Tracking System", which gives details of weekly assignments and tests for an entire quarter, keeps everyone - student - parent - teachers - on the same page. In addition, the weekly homework instruction appointments with BOTH parent and student encourage students to do their best and keep parents informed and empowered to follow-up at home. Many of our families tried "free programs" that did not work for their students. This year, despite economic setbacks, 100% of last year's students re-enrolled because they are so pleased with their student's progress at River Valley.

Roger Williams originally came to New England as a resident of the Colony of Massachusetts. He found himself to be in serious disagreement with the combination of Church and State in that colony, and eventually returned to England and received a charter to found the Colony of Rhode Island. The principles that were established in Rhode Island included the freedom to worship God in any church, without a State Church. There was a clear separation of Church and State. Schools were established by the various Churches in Rhode Island rather than the State. This fact permitted the parents to maintain control of the education received by their children, allowing them to be trained in moral and ethical disciplines based on the parents desired faith system. Roger Williams Academy is a Christian school. Moral and ethical standards, and wisdom literature is taken from the Bible.

High school music groups tour various parts of the state and outside of California as well. Sacramento Adventist Academy parents and students have demonstrated a strong interest in college preparation. College enrollment figures from transcript request data and personal interviews show that over 90% of SAA high school graduates choose to attend a two or four-year college/university. Students in grades 3 through 8 take the ITBS test each school year in the fall. Students in grades 9-12 take the ITED test. The PSAT is administered to all sophomores and juniors; freshmen may request to take this exam. Through testing and monitoring, students found to be low in certain areas are counseled to seek tutoring and/or additional testing to determine learning difficulties. One of the ways this is done is by assigning students with failing grades to Academic Probation. When a student is on Academic Probation he/she meets with the Registrar once a week to check his/her progress. Most of these students are on Academic Probation for only one grading period, since their grades improve during that time. The faculty and staff of SAA are committed to ensuring that all students achieve success.
