John was also known as the beloved disciple, and in his closeness to Jesus rested his head on Jesus during the Last Supper. As the only Apostle to remain by Jesus' side during the crucifixion, John was given the responsibility of caring for Mary, our Blessed Mother, after Jesus' death. Jesus predicted that John would not be martyred and he likely lived a long life. In that time, it is believed that he wrote the fourth Gospel, three letters, and possibly, the Book of Revelation. In these writings, John shows us the grandeur of Jesus' divine being as he speaks of the Word that became flesh and proclaims that God is love.
