Cardiff Sixth Form College has been the top academic school in the UK over the past 13 years. In 2025, 94% of students gained all A*-A grades and 99.6% A*-B. 81% of students went on to the QS top universities worldwide, and 56% to the Russell Group.
Key subject choices include medicine, engineering, law, natural sciences, computer science, architecture, business, and economics, with 33% of students going on to the top G5 universities in the UK.
The original school is situated in the middle of Cardiff, the lively capital city of Wales. The college also opened a second STEM A Level campus in the stunning university city of Cambridge. Here, students undertake a super-curricular programme called The Cambridge Edge, using Cambridge University and the businesses in Cambridge to give students the edge when applying to university.
Students can join Cardiff Sixth Form College for two or one year GCSE courses (aged 14 or 15 years) or A levels (aged 16-17 years). Students reside in top-quality boarding houses and enjoy single, ensuite bedrooms with shared medical centres, practice rooms, and common rooms.
A full super-curricular programme of careers, work placement – both internationally and in the UK, skills development, online courses, critical thinking, and research projects supplements the excellent academic programme. All students at Cardiff are ambitious and are aiming for top universities, so the college excels in giving students the edge. There is a year-long, one-to-one university preparation programme in place to help students navigate the UCAS system, the differences in courses, provide guidance on interviews and personal statements, and tutor for top university admissions tests, as well as many visits from external speakers and university admissions advisors.
There is also a full range of extra-curricular sports, music, drama, Duke of Edinburgh, debating, MUN, Young Enterprise Scheme, NASA Space Settlement Design competition, as well as many other clubs and activities on offer. Whole school events take place four times a year for Sports Day, the Cultural Event, Talent Show, GLEE theatre production, and there are many House and social activities at weekends and to celebrate key times of the year.
