The Montessori School of Bedford was founded in 1984. The emphasis of our program is to provide children 3-6 years of age with an enriched and balanced social and academic environment. It is a non-competitive environment where the children are encouraged to work according to their own interests and abilities. It is our role to assist the child in developing life skills that will carry them throughout their adult life. Without pressuring the child academically, the child is allowed to develop at his/her own pace, learn the importance of making responsible choices and actively direct his/her own experiences. Through careful observation we can monitor a child's learning process and connect them to the materials they are ready for. Our role is to prepare the environment so that it meets the needs of the child's development relating to social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as cognitive preparation. A well-prepared environment allows the child to be independent. Therefore, not having to rely on the adult as the main source of information promotes success and self-esteem. Most important is for the child to experience the joy of learning and develop a positive self-image. Our primary goal is to aid in helping each child reach their fullest potential in all aspects of their lives. To quote Dr. Maria Montessori, "Each child is constantly working towards the person they will become."
