Reyn Franca School, Reyn Franca Annex, and Joseph Novack Academy are non public schools designed to meet the needs of emotionally disturbed students. They serve grades K-12 with the majority of placements in grades 3-12. Emphasis is placed on improving social skills by requiring students to be held accountable for their actions. A system of rewards and consequences is used to assist in improving their social skills. Academic subjects are given equal attention. Our students have exhibited a great deal of improvement in both social, emotional, and academic skills, thus allowing a successful transition to public school; our ultimate goal. Reyn Franca School, Reyn Franca Annex, and Joseph Novack Academy are certified by the California Department of Education as non-public academic institutions. Credentialed teachers, social workers, and resource specialists work with each child to remediate and treat academic, social, and emotional issues. Reyn Franca School, Reyn Franca Annex, and Joseph Novack Adademy were developed to provide a continuum of care for emotionally disturbed children in our residential treatment homes. However, the needs of students in Merced and Stanislaus County have grown to where nearly 80% of our population is community based placements. The goal of our schools is to support a treatment program or IEP and prepare the students for a successful transition back into a public school setting. Our non public schools are part of the continuum of services within the public school system. When considering the academic, social, or emotional needs of a student, our non public schools may be the least restrictive environment based upon his or her needs. The target population for our non public schools is emotionally disturbed students who are not successful on a public school campus. Often a child with emotional disturbance has extreme difficulty with school. The child may be bright but lacks the interpersonal relationship skills, social skills, or emotional stability necessary for academic success. Each child is taught to be responsible and accountable for their actions.
