Dear

Ascension
Sunday: Jesus
was sent by the Father
to become human like us
and to proclaim the
Kingdom and to suffer
and die in order to save
the human race from sin,
death, and evil. This
redemptive mission
accomplished, Jesus now
goes back to the Father.
He does not leave us
orphans, though. He will
send us the Holy Spirit,
which we will celebrate
next Sunday (Pentecost).
He has also assured us
that he will be with us
always, even to the end
of time. During Jesus'
public ministry, he
could not go to every
place and every nation.
Now he commissions us to
go and share the good
news with everyone in
the world. We are the
messengers. Not only are
we messengers. We are
witnesses. All of us who
have experienced Jesus
as our way, the truth,
and the life, we are to
go and witness to
others. The witnessing
will entail a burning
conviction (a personal
experience) of Jesus and
a persuasive expression
of that conviction to
others. In our words and
deeds, in our values and
vision, we are to make
Christ known to the
world. This is the
meaning of the feast of
Ascension. This is all
the more important
because of the
widespread
secularization of the
world. Jesus has passed
on the baton to us. We
have to carry it to
others. The relay race
is on. We are to do our
part in taking Jesus
Christ to our own family
and friends, and
beyond.
We are "missionary
disciples." The "New
Evangelization" means
that we are called to
evangelize our own
families and friends and
neighborhoods. The
angels said at his
Ascension: "Men of
Galilee, why are you
standing there looking
at the sky? This Jesus
who has been taken up
from you into heaven
will return in the same
way as you have seen him
going into heaven."
Until Jesus comes back
to fulfill the destiny
of the whole universe,
which we call his Second
Coming, we have a
mission to accomplish as
Christians. We have love
to share, forgiveness to
offer, mercy to show,
justice to establish,
and dignity to uphold.
We have the hungry to
feed, naked to clothe,
strangers to welcome,
prisoners to visit,
homeless to shelter.
Jesus needs us. We are
his eyes and heart, his
hands and feet. The
message of the Ascension
is for us to continue
and complete the mission
of Christ. Are we ready
and willing?
Happy Mother's
Day: An Irish
proverb says: "A man
loves his sweetheart the
most, his wife the best,
but his mother the
longest." Here's wishing
all mothers a happy and
blessed Mother's Day!
Thank you for making
life possible! Thank you
for being God's most
alluring and
irresistible channels of
tenderness and
gentleness and
sweetness. God bless
you, Mothers, and always
keep you!
First Holy
Communion Last
Sunday: Six of
our parish children made
First Holy Communion
last Sunday at the 10:30
a.m. Mass. Please see
the picture in the back
of the bulletin.
Congratulations to the
children and their
families! May our Lord
Jesus be always close to
them and live in their
hearts and minds
forever! His message to
them would be: "Remain
in me as I remain in
you."
Month of May,
Dedicated to the Blessed
Virgin Mary: The Angelus
Prayer: The
Angel of the Lord
declared to Mary: And
she conceived of the
Holy Spirit. Hail
Mary
.. Behold the
handmaid of the Lord: Be
it done unto me
according to Thy word.
Hail Mary..... And the
Word was made Flesh: And
dwelt among us. Hail
Mary..... Pray for us, O
Holy Mother of God, that
we may be made worthy of
the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Pour forth,
we beseech Thee, O Lord,
Thy grace into our
hearts; that we, to whom
the incarnation of
Christ, Thy Son, was
made known by the
message of an angel, may
by His Passion and Cross
be brought to the glory
of His Resurrection,
through the same Christ
Our Lord. Amen.
Mother's Day
Humor: 1. A
mother is trying to get
her son to eat carrots.
"Carrots are good for
your eyes," she says.
"How do you know?" the
boy asks. The mother
replies, "Have you ever
seen a rabbit wearing
glasses?" 2. Mother to
son: I'm warning you. If
you fall out of that
tree and break both your
legs, don't come running
to me! 3. Robbie:
Larry's mother had four
children. Three were
named North, South and
West. What was her other
child's name? Bobbie:
East? Robbie: No. Larry.
4. "Why was the house so
neat on Mother's Day?
Because Mom spent all
day Saturday cleaning
it." 5. A police recruit
was asked during the
exam, 'What would you do
if you had to arrest
your own mother?' He
said, 'Call for backup.'
" 6. "Mom, what's it
like to have the
greatest daughter in the
world?" "I don't know,
ask your grandma!" 7.
"When your children are
teenagers, it's
important to have a dog
so that someone in the
house is happy to see
you." 8. What did the
lazy boy say to his mom
on Mother's Day when she
was about to do the
dishes after dinner?
"Relax Mom
you can
just do them in the
morning." 9. My Mom told
me I'd never amount to
anything because I
procrastinate too much.
I said, "Oh, yeah? Just
you wait." 10. Why is
Mother's Day before
Father's Day? So kids
can spend their
Christmas money on
mom.
Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Easter Season!
Happy Ascension Sunday!
God's abundant blessings
to everyone at St.
Elizabeth Parish!

Toward
the Synodal Meetings in October
2024
|
|
|
|
|
|
In
preparation for the second
session of the Synod in October
2024, the Vatican has asked all
dioceses all over the world,
including in the United States,
to hold listening sessions on the
following two questions:
- "Where
have I seen or experienced
successes -- and distresses --
within the Church's
structure(s)/organization/leadership/life
that encourage or hinder the
mission?"
- "How
can the structures and
organization of the Church
help all the baptized to
respond to the call to
proclaim the Gospel and to
live as a community of love
and mercy in Christ?
Deadline
to submit the answers to the
U.S. Bishops' Conference is
April 8. These reports will be
synthesized regionally and
nationally--- and the final
report will be sent to the
Vatican Synodal Office by May
15, 2024.
The
Vatican's guidance that shaped
the above questions incorporates
four questions:
- "How
can we enhance the
differentiated
co-responsibility in the
mission of all the members of
the People of God?";
- "What
ways of relating, structures,
processes of discernment and
decision-making with regard to
mission make it possible to
recognize, shape, and promote
co-responsibility?";
- "What
ministries and participatory
bodies can be renewed or
introduced to better express
this co-responsibility?" and,
- "How
can these relations be
creatively articulated in
order to find 'a dynamic
balance between the dimension
of the Church as a whole and
its local roots?'

The
Synod on Synodality
October 2021 to October
2024
Theme:
Communion, Participation,
Mission: The Synod on Synodality
is a three-year process of
listening and dialogue that began
with a solemn opening in Rome on
October 9 and 10, 2021. The
synodal process will conclude in
2024. Each individual diocese in
the whole world has gone through
a process of preparation for the
Synod. The Synod is both an event
and a process in which the whole
People of God are called to walk
to gather together toward what
the Holy Spirit helps it to
discern as being the Lord's will
for his Church. Pope Francis has
invited the entire Church to
reflect on a theme that is
decisive for its life and
mission: "It is precisely this
path of synodality which God
expects of the Church of the
third millennium. This journey,
which follows in the wake of the
Church's "renewal" proposed by
the Second Vatican Council, is
both a gift and a task: by
journeying together and
reflecting together on the path
that has been made, the Church
will be able to learn through Her
experience which processes can
help Her to live communion, to
achieve participation, and to
open Herself to mission." The
16th Ordinary General Assembly of
the Synod of Bishops will be held
in two sessions. The first one
from October 4 to 29, 2023. The
second session will be in October
2024.

What
is a synod? A synod in the
Catholic Church is both an event
and a process where clergy,
religious, and laity gather to
discern important matters of the
faith. It is a journey of search
rooted in the Holy Spirit. Synods
are transformative events that
lead to renewal in the life of
the Church. The current synod is
called Synod on
Synodality. Its a
synod that would explore the very
processes of synod and examine
how as the People of God we are
journeying together. Pope Francis
says: Synodality is the way
of being the Church today
according to the will of God, in
a dynamic of discerning and
listening together to the voice
of the Holy Spirit. You
might want to be informed more
about this Synod by going online
and doing your own research.
