Abingdon is divided into the Lower School (aged 11-13), Middle School (aged 13-16) and Upper School or Sixth Form (aged 16-18). Pupils spend two years in Lower School, three years in Middle School and two years in the Sixth Form. Entry to the Lower School is mainly from maintained primary schools and independent schools which finish at the age of eleven, while the Middle School intake is predominantly from preparatory schools. In the Sixth Form there is a further intake of students from the maintained and independent sectors.

Benenden is one of the leading boarding schools in Britain. Founded in 1923, we are situated in 250 acres of attractive parkland in Kent, the Garden of England, just an hour from London. There are 560 girls in the School, aged 11-18.

Brighton College is an independent day and boarding school for male and female pupils aged from 11 to 18 years. Founded in 1845, it occupies a 12-acre site close to the seafront in Brighton. It is a registered charity, owned and governed by its board of governors who are trustees of the charity. There are three boarding houses for male pupils and two for females on site; a co-educational boarding house for some sixth-form pupils situated close to the campus has been created since the previous inspection. The school has also extended its facilities with a new music school, a new teaching block and a science and sport building.

Queen Anne's School is an independent day and boarding school for female pupils aged eleven to nineteen. Founded in 1698 in Westminster as the Grey Coat Hospital, it became a school for females in 1874, moving to the present site in Caversham in 1894. In 2019, the Grey Coat Hospital Foundation merged with the United Westminster Schools Foundation to create the United Westminster Grey Coat Foundation, which maintains oversight through an independent governing body. Boarders are accommodated in four boarding houses; there are three-day houses. Since the previous inspection, the school has completed a new main entrance, school office, and music center, including a recital hall and a recording studio.

Rugby School is a co-educational independent boarding and day school. It is situated in the centre of Rugby, with the buildings, including 13 boarding and two-day houses, concentrated close to School House, the historic centre of the school. It is run by a charitable trust and administered by a governing body which oversees the work of the school. The school's previous inspection was a regulatory compliance inspection in January 2018. Since the previous inspection, a new headmaster has been appointed to allow his predecessor to become Executive headmaster of the Rugby School Group. A rolling programme of the refurbishment of boarding houses has continued.

Sevenoaks School is a co-educational day & boarding school for pupils aged 11-18. 30 minutes from central London, close to Gatwick & Heathrow, Channel Tunnel & Continental Europe. The school has strong roots in the local community but there is also an international flavor not only in its staff & students but also in its ethos, its culture & its curriculum: Sixth Form students take the IB.

Winchester College, founded in 1382 by William of Wykeham, is a day and boarding school situated in the cathedral city of Winchester. Almost all pupils are male and are boarders. Members of the school's governing body, known as The Warden and Fellows, are also the trustees of the original foundation. Since September 2022, a very small number of male day pupils and sixth-form female day pupils have occupy a further ten boarding houses located close by. Separate accommodation for sixth-form female pupils provides changing and study accommodation for their use during the day. They are also been admitted. Scholars board in the original school buildings and other pupils, known as commoners, are attached to one of the boarding houses where they can eat in the evening and stay later if they wish.
